Add some colour to North Delta with a rainbow crosswalk

The proposal by Sher Vancouver to the City of Delta to bring a rainbow crosswalk to North Delta is gaining some opposition because it apparently only highlights one group.

First of all, in my opinion, a rainbow crosswalk represents diversity and inclusion and that includes everyone. In addition, it is important to note the rainbow has also come to mean a safe space for LGBTQ people and that is not a bad thing.

Regardless, there is nothing wrong with a local government supporting the needs of one group over another. This is what the concept of "equity" refers to.

Different groups have different needs and the government has a duty, obligation and responsibility to be responsive to those needs.

We are not all a bunch of clones of each other and all the same.

And in case you have not noticed, a rainbow crosswalk is colourful and beautiful. That's probably one of the reasons they are so popular across the province with over 40 cities and towns having them already.

May the city add some colour to North Delta. Make it happen universe.
