Anxious to see construction proceed on Southlands

I have been a resident of Tsawwassen for almost 30 years. For the past decade we have been considering downsizing, but want to stay in Tsawwassen because we have a daughter and grandson who live here and have a number of local friends.

We have attended all the community information sessions related to the Southlands and visited the demonstration home at the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall.

The Southlands offers the environment we would like to live in because it is close to the Town Centre Mall, near Beach Grove Golf Club, on flat, walkable land, near Boundary Bay Regional Park, and offers suitable accommodation, and is proposing services attractive to us. We are anxious to see the construction proceed.

I was disappointed to see Delta council had not approved the Four Winds proposal for the Southlands. I think it would be an attraction, for not just the Southlands, but all Tsawwassen residents, particularly the many who would be within walking or biking distance.

South Delta has changed. The Tsawwassen First Nation’s malls and Tsawwassen Springs have demonstrated that people want to live and support services in the area. Unfortunately these facilities are focused in one region. The proposed Four Winds facility would provide a venue within walking distance for those of us who live south of 8A Avenue.

As a Tsawwassen resident, I believe that Century Group has demonstrated a major interest in keeping Tsawwassen economically viable and to attract new residents. I have friends who rent from the company in Tsawwassen and they consider it a good landlord.

We shop at the Town Centre Mall which is a pleasure to visit.

While I do not personally know anyone in the Century Group, it is common knowledge they live in Tsawwassen and promote the community.

I agree with them that the Four Winds Brewing facility would help to vitalize the southern side of Tsawwassen and enhance it as an excellent place to live.

Consequently, I urge council to reconsider the Four Winds application and support the future of Tsawwassen.
