Delta Hospice AGM was just too much to stomach

I attended the Delta Hospice re-do of its AGM until I could no longer stomach the travesties incurred by the anti-MAiD gang supporting the terminated previous executive director, Nancy Macey.

Her anti-side recruited hundreds of new members, many from sympathetic faith communities, to come out in force to replace pro-MAiD board members with five of their own.

I was stunned by the shouting, bullying and filibustering of the meeting from the anti-side from the moment it started, and the party-mood mob-mentality knowing they were united in their cause and easily had the numbers to win.

Three brave staff (nurses) requested to speak before the election. They, including an Anglican priest, were booed. They represented 30 of their colleagues and told the capacity crowd of 300-plus how awful it was to work under Macey’s flawed leadership.

Now that her anti-side has taken control, I have no doubt these courageous individuals will be fired, and possibly many supporting colleagues. If the new board reverses the decision to allow MAiD on the premises, I wonder if they’ve considered the consequences of possibly losing $1.5 million in government funding or in a long and expensive litigation for breaking the law and violating our human rights.

I just hope the powers that be will step up and take action.
