Do your part and wear a mask

Re: editorial cartoon (Optimist, Oct. 22)

Oh, wouldn't it be wonderful if all that was stated in this cartoon was true!

Perhaps, we wouldn't be having the huge numbers in COVID-19 cases in B.C.?  Oh please tell me where this Utopia is and I will be there in a heartbeat!

How about living in an apartment building where people have never social distanced, very few wear masks and they are going out into the community? I bet I'm not the only one who witnesses such behaviour. Or people sitting around small tables at their local coffee shop, no masks (I know, I know, how can you drink coffee with no mask on), chatting away.

Everyone on this planet is mourning the lives we once had, but ignoring the advice that is being presented to us, not just in B.C., but worldwide is not going to make this pandemic go away. In fact, as we are seeing on a daily basis, not adhering to this advice is making things worse. We are in cold and flu season, compounded with COVID-19 and God help you if you are a senior or a person with health problems, your risk is double.

Please folks, do your part. I don't know one person who likes wearing a mask, using hand sanitizer, social distancing or not seeing loved ones, but we have to do the right thing for the sake of our loved ones, our community.

I would like to thank all of the students I see walking in the Village wearing masks. Thank you to their parents for teaching their children social responsibility.

Please be safe.
