While I can understand that some parents prefer their children don’t eat Halloween candy, I find it wrong that they are nonetheless encouraging their children to collect such candy from neighbours with the sole intention of cashing it in at the dentist.

In my view, if children are prohibited from eating Halloween treats by their parents, then go for a neighbourhood walk, but leave the trick-or-treating to others who will then enjoy the evening sorting, counting, eating and hopefully brushing before bed.

Donations by the dental office to Delta Hospital are no doubt generous, but I fail to understand how taking candy from generous neighbours, then selling it for personal monetary gain can be considered charitable.

In my view, the message being sent to children is morally wrong.
