Founded over 100 years ago, The Rotary Foundation is recognized by international foundation rating organizations as one of the world’s most trusted and effective foundations. It is the foundation for Rotary International, the world’s original service club. Over time it has spent more than US$4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects. It is the powerhouse behind many of Rotary’s contributions to communities here at home and around the world.

Members of the three Rotary clubs in Delta, including the original Rotary Club of Ladner, throughout BC and around the world raise funds for, and donate to, The Rotary Foundation because as little as 60 cents can protect a child from polio, $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness and $500 can launch an anti-bullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.

For 2018, the latest year for which complete statistics are available, The Rotary Foundation awarded US$86,677,399 in funding through 1,306 grants for projects carried out by Rotarians, often with other organizations, around the world. For instance, to prevent disease, including the end to polio, the Foundation spent $35 million, to provide clean water $19 m, support education $11 m, grow local economies $10 m, save mothers and children $7 m, and promote peace $3 m.

Some Rotary clubs in BC that year were engaged in nine active projects valued at more than $500,000 -- including $197,262 from The Rotary Foundation -- not only at home, but in El Salvador, Laos, Morocco, Ethiopia, Guatemala, China and Congo.

The Rotary Club of Ladner has used Foundation funding to boost club and community funding, in sharing the cost with the City of Delta, in building the Ladner Rotary Splash Park in Memorial Park. The Ladner Rotary club has also called on the Foundation to support its work with other clubs in BC and Canada to provide clean drinking water and fight disease, and enable education, in remote northern villages of the impoverished nation of Laos.

Thank you to the people of Delta and generous Rotary members for their ongoing support of all our service to the community, helped in part by The Rotary Foundation.
