To have Delta council listen to the very serious concerns of its residents is a breath of fresh air, and council, particularly Mayor George Harvie, have my gratitude.

I live in Monterra and we have had to bear the brunt of construction on the Southlands but I voted for the Southlands approval after what was the longest approval process ever in this community’s history.

During all this time no one contemplated building anything more than a farmer’s market. This is what was approved and this, I believe, will work best for our community.

To suggest a brewery, a winery and a distillery in this community was never in the interest of local residents. It was simply in the interest of Century Group to ensure an anchor tenant which would have been Four Winds Brewery.

It failed because of the courage of four on council, and I am glad it did so we can get on with the farmer’s market, which could well include a smaller restaurant/pub serving Four Winds beer. I am all for that.
