‘Love-in’ only lobbed softballs at Delta’s mayoral candidates

The Delta Chamber of Commerce did a good job of hosting a mayoral all-candidates meeting last Wednesday evening at South Delta Secondary. It managed to lob a series of softball questions at the candidates.

Where were the real questions that concern the residents of Tsawwassen and Ladner?  I’m thinking of the stink coming from the East Ladner composting facility, worsening congestion and truck traffic on 56th Street in Tsawwassen, a taxpayer-funded golden handshake for mayor and council with no public consultation, potential agricultural land development behind Forest by the Bay, climate change and flood protection in Boundary Bay and Beach Grove, a pattern of council allowing developers to ride roughshod over the Official Community Plan and public hearings that seem to be decided before they begin regardless of vocal opposition.

The voters of Delta were not well served by the love-in that occurred last Wednesday. It is high time to clear the slate at Delta council. Out with the old and in with the new.
