More drinking establishments in Delta will mean more drunk drivers

Re: DPD raise drinking and driving alert after close call in Massey Tunnel, March 13

I was surprised to read that DPD raised a drinking and driving alert after a recent close call in the George Massey Tunnel.  Can we assume that more of this kind of thing will happen if and when the casino opens, and if and when a brewery, winery and distillery are located on Southlands?

I find this scary, especially given that if the proposal on Southlands is to attract tourists, these folks will have to drive through the tunnel to the proposed restaurant/brewery as well as to the proposed casino.

I hope readers noticed the article in the Optimist in which Little House announced it will host a dialogue on drinking alcohol (focused, by the way, on moderate or binge drinking, not chronic alcoholism). I feel this dialogue is timely and important for Delta to consider before it goes ahead with plans for alcohol-serving establishments in Tsawwassen.

If I recall, Mayor George Harvie and some council candidates spoke at Little House prior to the last election. It is too bad that this notice of a dialogue did not come to readers' attention prior to the recent public hearing.

My son offered his opinion that breweries and brew pubs that he visits are located in industrial regions, similar to the current Four Winds location in Tilbury. Also he commented on how noisy the various brew pubs are and on the odours that are produced.

We sure have lots to look forward to, or do we?
