Since the start of this pandemic, the intensity of the national and regional news media to deliver COVID-19 updates from around the planet, across Canada and our province has dominated the print headlines, TV and the internet for many weeks. The COVID-19 reporting has been exemplary and critical to our safety and well-being.
But every Wednesday and Friday when I get my local Optimist headlines delivered to my e-mail box and my paper on Thursday, I stop what I am doing to catch up on what’s happening in my local community.
Our local media keeps us all connected and informed about the things that are important to us who live and work in Delta. Whether it’s politics, sports, business, lifestyle or our health, we can count on our local Optimist to provide a balance of professional reporting and letters to the editor on many community issues. We really appreciate their coverage of our business community in Delta.
In our new world of self-isolation, social distancing and restricted activities and travel, we all need to feel connected more than ever. Our local Optimist will help us do that if we give them the opportunity and support they need.
They are also a business that employs people with families. Like many businesses, they have experienced a reduction in revenue due to COVID-19. I encourage our businesses and citizens to support our local Optimist by purchasing ads and taking out voluntary subscriptions.
They need us and we need them to help restart our economy and continue to inform us on what’s happening in the communities we all love here in Delta.
