Re: Cruise terminal eyed for Fraser, Aug. 22

The Port of Vancouver says a cruise ship terminal could be built on the banks of the Fraser River in Delta. According to the port, Vancouver welcomed more than 900,000 cruise passengers on 243 ship visits in 2018.

Sounds splendid and would be wonderful for the local economy, but let's make sure it is built south of the George Massey Tunnel so whatever percentage of those 900,000 cruise passengers disembark at this new facility they get to enjoy the “Tunnel Trickle.”

Cruise ships tend to go around a dizzying 35 to 40 km/h, so it will be nice for the passengers to slow down to the speed of the day-long traffic jam the tunnel has become. We will feature the tunnel as a tourist attraction, turn all lights off and it will be like a Disneyland ride, complete with fumes.

Welcome to the Claustrophobia Coach, folks, the ride only takes a few minutes but it will feel like a lifetime. Oxygen tanks available for a small fee and - as a bonus - your return trip will be even longer as we will schedule it for the peak of rush hour.
