I agree Delta has finally made the long overdue decision to remove and ban all donation bins in the city but I think it’s a shame that Coun. Dan Copeland views it as “unfortunate the city has to take such measures but there are people who feel the need to rummage through them.”

His statement blames the people for “rummaging" through these bins as the reason council has had to take such measures. These bins are dangerous, death-traps to some of society’s most vulnerable members and it is our job as a community to protect them as much as anyone else who risks harm from something on public or private property.  That’s not “unfortunate" or an “imposition.”

The people who are “rummaging” through them don’t “feel the need,” they actually need to because they are in desperate situations most of us in this privileged community don’t have to face.’

Yes, even Delta has a homeless, impoverished population and perhaps Copeland should get to know and meet some of these members of the community he was elected to serve so he can have more understanding rather than judgement of the challenges they face each day.
