Re: Public hearing on T2

If you are opposed to the expansion of the Roberts Bank Terminal, it’s vital that you voice your concerns to the panel at this public hearing, in writing or in person (or both), particularly about the risks to the environment and to wildlife.

This is a fragile area that has already seen fragmentation, loss and degradation of irreplaceable habitat through extensive development and agricultural uses that include greenhouses and blueberry monoculture. The wildlife that will be affected need your voice – please speak for them!

  1. This area is included in an officially designated Important Bird Area (IBA) and is one of the most important ecosystems for migratory and wintering shorebirds in Canada including globally, continentally and nationally significant populations.
  2. This IBA supports significant numbers of three species officially designated by the federal government as threatened or special concern: Great Blue Heron, Barn Owl and Peregrine Falcon.
  3. Environment & Climate Change Canada has stated grave concerns regarding the effect of the current proposal on migratory shore birds in general and the Western Sandpiper in particular, citing impacts due to predicted changes in salinity as potentially high in magnitude, permanent, irreversible, and, continuous.

You must register by March 22.
