The most contentious land use issue in Delta’s history is back.

The developer, Century Group, is asking for major changes through a back door variance application. The variance has received preliminary approval and there is an important public hearing next Tuesday evening.

Century, on behalf of Four Winds Brewing, is asking to move parts of the Four Winds brewery from Tilbury to the Southlands. Breweries, with or without restaurants, are currently permissible in areas zoned industrial. The Southlands site is zoned residential with a mixed use commercial/residential zone, not industrial.

Century is also asking for a variance on height and the maximum size of any one building. This proposal is significantly different than the originally approved application.

I think the citizens of Delta, and particularly Tsawwassen, need to let Delta council know they object, either at the public hearing or by writing or phoning their council representatives.
