Last Monday as I was waiting impatiently for my HandyDART ride outside Delta Hospital my attention was attracted to someone in his wheelchair scooting out of the building across to the car park. He proceeded to the far side of a parked Mini where he opened the passenger door and somehow transferred himself onto the passenger seat.

So he must be waiting for his driver to come and look after his wheelchair. But no. He then slid himself across to the driver's seat, somehow negotiating the gearshift and handbrake. Seated there he then proceeded to tilt forward the passenger seat and lean across, lift in the wheelchair and put it on the back seat, then tilt the seat forward again so he could stretch across to close the passenger door, put on his seat belt and drive off.

To this gentleman, in the hope that he reads this, I say thanks.

Thanks for the display of determination, ingenuity and independence. Thanks for the example of mitigating any afflictions we may have. Thanks for the encouragement to persevere. And personal thanks for a brief period of great entertainment.
