Editor:
The organizing committee of Gwen's Growing & Giving, a sharing and caring fundraiser, would like to thank you for your support of the very successful 18th annual plant sale.
The skies cleared, the plant material was amazing and eager buyers lined up to snatch their finds.
The spring weather did not always cooperate but the variety and quantity of plants was amazing with over 1,600 plants and 250 varieties donated.
Close to $2,800 was earned with proceeds to the Delta Hospice and OWL, both very deserving of our efforts.
This year the organizing committee, with more experience, fell into a comfortable rhythm. We knew what had to be done and who was best at getting the task done.
We were a great team. We learned to ask for help. We called on each other when we needed help and supported each other in getting it all done.
Not to say, it wasn't hard work - it always is. It's physical work - digging, bending, lifting, moving and then doing it all over again, and again and again.
Yes, we had sore backs, legs, arms and fingers. Yes, sometimes we were wet and cold and a hot bath felt so good. Despite it all we laughed and had a good time. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful, hard working group of ladies.
Will we do it again? Yes! It's a bit of a rush to see everyone run down the driveway when the sale starts, it's fun to see someone find a special plant or be introduced to the world of gardening, or see their eyes widen when you tell them their total price. Is that all, are you sure?
It's even more heartfelt when we present the cheques to the recipients. Regardless of the amount, the recipients are always so grateful as a little bit money can go a long way.
Many thanks to our local business donors: Phoenix Perennials, West Coast Seeds, Thrifty Foods, Sunnyside Nurseries, Van Paridon Perennial Gardens, Fiona's Garden and Design Services, the Delta Optimist, the South Delta Leader, Trimpac Sysco, and Attentive Horticultural Services (Shelagh Bannerman).
And, we cannot forget those friends and neighbours who support our fundraiser with such enthusiasm.
