Thursday, April 15th marked a significant milestone for the Delta community, as Fraser Health opened the Irene Thomas Hospice to patients and their families, delivering on our commitment to provide these important services to people who need access to hospice care.
This is a significant moment for the Delta community, and is a moment worth celebrating. Hospice care is multi-faceted, and provides support to not only people nearing the end of their lives, but their loved ones, too. Though a person may never need access to hospice care, knowing that this service is available to them – or someone they care about – when they need it most is a fundamental component of our health care system.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Delta community, Mayor George Harvie and Delta council, Delta MP Carla Qualtrough, Delta North MLA Ravi Kahlon, and Delta South MLA Ian Paton for their tremendous support as we worked to open the Irene Thomas Hospice to the community.
I have heard from people in the community how integral the Irene Thomas Hospice is to Delta and the surrounding areas, and I am so pleased that we have been able to deliver on our promise to open this facility.
I would also like to thank Fraser Health staff and medical staff for their tireless efforts in recent weeks to update and open the hospice. I acknowledge and appreciate their enthusiasm which has enabled us to open our doors and welcome patients and their families now and for many years to come.
Finally, thank you to the Irene Thomas Hospice employees for their work over the past year, and for their ongoing contributions as they continue to provide quality service to the local community.
