'Open-government' meeting doesn't live up to name

How interesting that Premier Christy Clark has attended an 'open government' meeting in South Delta. It is not clear, however, who arranged the meeting, who was invited and why. The omissions are more glaring. Neither MLA Vicki Huntington nor MLA Guy Gentner were invited and most importantly, nor was the public. Concerned groups of citizens asked Ms. Clark's predecessor many times to face the public in both Delta ridings and listen to concerns of the people who live here, but he, too, attended only private events.

The largest destroyer of farmland in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley is the provincial government, paving without restraint for unnecessary mega-projects. I can't see any change in policy or tactics in Ms. Clark's latest move. Holding a private meeting and calling it 'open government' shows no understanding of that term.

I agree wholeheartedly with Debbie McBride in another excellent column. Don't give up, get active.
