Palm trees can't hide this traffic gridlock

As a result of Tsawwassen being described as "strip mall hell" by a U.S. publication, Delta determined a course of action that can be best described as "don't just stand there - panic!"

One offending mall was demolished but Mother Corp. of Delta must have decided visual distractions were required to counter mall-counting activity. What bigger distraction is there than non-indigenous plants growing right in the street, on islands in the traffic stream?

Many cities have palms decorating their streets but normally those trees are boringly restricted to sidewalks. Not so in Delta.

In addition to concrete islands Delta provided us with two additional traffic lights to help delay traffic not slowed by other improvements. However, physical impediments do ensure that emergency vehicle drivers get to practice their slalom skills while responding to calls.

Assuming that some Century development plan involving the Southlands will be successful, 56th Street is going to be required to handle more traffic than ever.

Without some serious changes, traffic gridlock will ensue that no number of palms can hide.
