Re: Stats show greying trend, June 1

Thank you for the article on the greying trend in our community. At Deltassist, we have not only been tracking this for some time, but also determining what our seniors will need in terms of services going forward.

As the host agency for the Delta Seniors Community Planning Team, this has been a long-standing concern. For many years, we have been helping seniors "age in place."

We have a volunteer transportation program to help seniors get to appointments near and far. We have a shopping service for seniors that have trouble doing their grocery shopping. We help them complete their taxes. We have daily contact service and volunteer visiting, because some seniors that don't have family nearby just need a simple conversation to make their day.

We are constantly learning about what our seniors need to live out a fulfilling life in our community.

We agree with the mayor that funding is a challenge. There are no formal programs at any level of government for these services.

As a community based notfor-profit, we rely on grants and donations to provide these services.

At Deltassist, our priority is the wellbeing of our community. It is unfortunate there are no core funds available from any level of government for seniors services. Regardless, we respond to all expressed needs and our services are free.

If you are a senior and need support, visit our website at Deltassist.com or call 604-946-9526 and we'll be happy to give you a hand.

If you're not a senior and want to support us, we'd be grateful if you'd visit our website as well.
