When was the last time you took a stroll through Ladner Village or down 56th St. in Tsawwassen and visited any of the local shops?

If your answer to this question is ‘I don’t know’, or ‘not recently’ then now is a good time to change that.

This year Christmas will be a different experience for all of us.

We don’t know what the holiday season will look like in terms of health and safety protocols around the COVID-19 pandemic, or whether we will be able to gather together with family or friends, but one thing I do know is that we can still find ways to shop local and support local business.

Since the start of the pandemic, the business community in Delta have collectively come together to ensure a safe shopping experience.

The Ladner Business Association (LBA), Tsawwassen Business Improvement Association (TBIA), City of Delta and the Delta Chamber have all formed a great partnership to create programs and support to keep our businesses, shops, services and restaurants open.

The city has created a Home for the Holiday’s initiative with a ‘gift local in Delta’ theme.

According to the city, every $100 that you spend at a small business in Delta, $63 flows back into the community and the local economy. That is a significant number.

Those dollars in-turn go to support local staff, local events and initiatives put on by the business community that we all hope will return once the pandemic is over.

So purchasing your holiday gifts in Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta will go a long way in supporting your community and keeping our businesses thriving. And if you don’t want to shop in person, how about purchasing gift cards from your favourite shop, service or restaurant that your family and friends can enjoy later?

What better gift can you receive this holiday than the gift of community support?
