Richmond Mounties have uncovered a massive haul of stolen goods from break-ins in the city, including high-end handbags, clothing, shoes, watches, spirits, and personal electronics.

Jewellery, musical instruments, power tools, sporting goods and several swords were also found in several storage lockers in Richmond and Vancouver after officers from the RCMP’s Property Crime Unit (PCU) arrested the suspect, Aaron Young, 42, in Terra Nova last month.

“We have recovered a substantial amount of property believed to have been stolen and destined for resale,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang.

“These items were discovered following the execution of a number of search warrants and a lengthy police investigation.

“Our officers have had to painstakingly process and catalog each and every item. It has taken them weeks to go through and process the well over 1,000 items, that have been seized.”

Amongst items seized, added Hwang, were two vehicles used by the accused.

“We want to reassure our community that combatting property crime is a top priority for our detachment,” he said.

On Dec. 5, officers from the PCU witnessed Young allegedly breaking and entering to a residence in the 5,000 block of Cornwall Street in Terra Nova.

Following the arrest of that suspect, four search warrants were executed at the following locations:

•         One residence in the 8,000 block of General Currie Road, Richmond

•         One storage locker in the 12,000 block of Riverside Way, Richmond

•         One storage locker in the 8,000 block of Sea Island Way, Richmond

•         One storage locker in the 1,300 block of East Kent Avenue North, Vancouver.

On Dec. 6, Young was released on bail and re-arrested on Dec. 19 after he was observed by plainclothes officers from the PCU allegedly casing residences.

The BC Prosecution Service has approved the following fifteen charges against Young:

•         Ten counts of break and enter with intent;

•         One count of assault with a weapon;

•         Two counts of using a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence;

•         Two counts possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

As of today, Young remains in custody and additional charges may be forthcoming, added the RCMP.
