The 31st Georgie Awards black-tie gala took place on May 20th at Vancouver’s Hyatt Regency in front of a sold-out crowd of 650 guests decked out in their finest. Hosted by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of B.C. (CHBA BC), the ballroom was festooned in the fantasy world of the Wizard of Oz.
Thrilled with the turnout, Neil Moody, CEO of the CHBA BC, says:
“The Georgie Awards are a testament to the excellence, professionalism and innovation that defines the residential construction industry in British Columbia. They are an opportunity to celebrate the incredible work being done by builders, renovators, designers, and marketers and to recognize their contributions to the communities they serve.”
With emcees Todd Talbot of HGTV’s Love it or List It and Erin Cebula of ET Canada, the awards party applauded winners in nearly 50 categories within six categories of excellence - Residential Construction – New; Residential Construction – Renovation; Interior Design, Merchandising and Landscaping; Sales and Marketing; Special Achievement Awards; Grand Georgie Awards.
Here are just four of the very deserving award winners:
One of the year’s top winners was Delta’s Century Group, walking away with five prestigious awards for its master-planned community of Southlands in Tsawwassen; Best Single-Family Home Production (for the Courtyard Cottages), Best Environmental Initiative, Best Sales Centre, Best Project Identity, and the Grand Georgie - Residential Community of the Year.
“I want to thank my entire team at Century Group who sweated the countless details that add up to the excellence we strived for and delivered,” says Sean Hodgins, president of Century Group. “We worked hard with the City of Delta to ensure Southlands Tsawwassen added significantly to the fabric of the entire community of Tsawwassen. We thank everyone who helped us along the way."
Miracon walked away with the coveted Multi Family Home Builder of the Year.
“For the Miracon team, these awards are less about retention, future hiring or sales, but rather they act as a testament to our core values and reinforce the fact that we are building the types of communities that people are proud to call home,” says Ryan O’Shea, president, Miracon. “We are truly humbled and honoured to have been named the best Multi Family Home Builder of the Year by CHBC BC.”
Honoured and humbled, says Dave Stephens, president and founder, LIDA Homes, of its Grand Georgie Award for Custom Home Builder of the Year win.
“This award is the pinnacle award for all custom home builders across the Province of BC,” says Stephens.
“A huge shout out to the LIDA Homes Inc. team, clients, and all trade partners who made this award possible. Without you, this award could not happen. Also, a big congratulations to all the other finalists and winners. Thank you to the Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC for putting on such an amazing night for our industry!”
Lastly, RDC Fine Homes went home with the Grand Georgie for Renovator of the Year.
“Of all the Georgies we have won over the years, the Grand Georgie Awards for us have always been the most coveted and rewarding,” says Bob Deeks, president, RDC. “Special mention should also go out to the other finalists, as just being nominated to the finals is a huge win.”
