U17 Tsawwassen Blues worked overtime to advance to B.C. Soccer’s 63rd annual Coastal “B” Cup Championships semi-finals for the first time in three years.
The girls rep team struck twice in the extra 30 minutes to produce a 3-1 victory over the Aldergrove Vipers last Sunday at Dugald Morrison Park.
The Vipers had opened the scoring on an early breakaway and Shannon Wilson would answer not long after for Tsawwassen. Despite the hosts dominating territorial play, they couldn’t break through again in the remaining 70 minutes of regulation time.
However, Lauren McKay finally broke the deadlock in overtime and Kora Savage added an insurance marker.
The Blues go onto play the SurDel Rapids in an all-Delta final four match up slated for 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Dennis Elsom Field in North Delta.
This 1999 age group is looking to reach the Coastal Cup final for the very first time,
Meanwhile, it was business as usual for the U18 Tsawwassen Blues.
The defending Coastal Cup champs continued their impressive run on the road with a 1-0 win over Langley Wolves last Sunday.
The result not only puts the girls within one win of returning to the final but also puts them on the verge of locking up a fifth consecutive trip to the Provincial “B” Cup Championships in July.
The Blues will look to continue their success away from home Sunday when they travel to Victoria to take on Vancouver Island champions Saanich Fusion FC.
Meanwhile, in Coastal “A” Cup girls playdowns, the U13 Delta Coastal Selects also thrived on the Dugald turf field last Sunday, producing a 3-0 win over Vancouver FC. Delta will now travel to the North Shore for its semi-final match this weekend.
The U15 Coastal Selects slipped past Port Coquitlam 1-0 and will be back at Dennis Elsom Field Sunday to host North Shore at 4:30 p.m.
The Coastal “A” and “B” Cup finals for boys and girls will be played April 30 and May 1 in Aldergrove.
