Brewers crowned B.C. Minor junior men's provincial champions

South Delta Brewers have become the first city team to win B.C. Minor's junior men's provincial title after a successful run in Maple Ridge last weekend.

The South Delta Brewers made history in Maple Ridge on the weekend.

The Brewers are B.C. Baseball’s junior men’s provincial champions after rallying for a 7-6 win over Ridge Meadows in the title game. South Delta overcame an early 4-0 deficit to knockoff the regular season pennant winners and become the first Delta team to taste provincial glory at this level.

The Brewers put together their best performances the past month. from the conclusion of the regular season to the final. The championship playoff round began with a 13-7 opening victory over North Shore, followed by a 17-8 triumph White Rock and a tough 4-0 loss to Ridge Meadows in the final pool game. The two wins set up a semi-final matchup with Cloverdale. The Brewers overcame an early 1-0 Cloverdale lead with clutch hitting and timely defense to earn a spot in the finals with an 11-5 victory.

Leading the Brewers with quality pitching through these games were Brandon Graham, Tyler Lauinger, Ben Lawson and Spencer McHattie. Timely hitting, and strong defense was provided from Joel Bourque, Aiden Hansen-Bukata, Iver Jackson, Tavin Jackson, Max Kirshenblatt, Brock Lawson, Spencer Mallard, Travis Pink, Robert Scarr, Ryan Scarr, and Danny Stanger.

Unavailable for the finals weekend but contributing to the team’s successes all season were Mark Dykstra, Kevin Marlowe, and Donny Mackintosh.

The Brewers were led by the coaching staff of Dan Hodgens, and Steve Sim.

B.C. Minor’s Junior Men's division is comprised of an age group of 18 to 24 years and allows players the opportunity to continue playing baseball while furthering their education and/or employment careers. The South Delta Brewers feature only Tsawwassen resident players, are one of the league’s youngest teams.
