Vancouver looks to secure first time to championship series since 2005 on home ice Friday night

Vancouver Giants have opened up a 3-1 series lead over the Spokane Chiefs thanks to a 4-3 game four win on Wednesday night in Spokane.

The Vancouver Giants will be looking to secure their first trip to the Western Hockey League championship series in 12 years Friday night at the Langley Events Centre.

The Giants have opened up a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven Western Conference Final with the Spokane Chiefs thanks to 4-3 overtime win on Wednesday night in Spokane. Game five is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Dawson Holt, the WHL’s reigning Player of the Week ripped home his fifth of the playoffs at 7:07 of the first overtime to cap a Vancouver comeback. The Chiefs took a 2-0 lead into the final 20 minutes.

Jadon Joseph, Bowen Byram and Brayden Watts supplied the other goals for Vancouver while David Tendeck made 28 saves in goal. Adam Beckman had two goals in response for Spokane.

Special teams has been a huge part of the Giants playoff success. Their power play improved to 4/8 in the series while the penalty kill now sits at 6/6. The power play has registered a goal in 13 of the 14 playoff games.

With a goal and an assist, Byram now sits second in playoff scoring with 16 points (6G, 10A).

The Giants last reached the WHL finals in 2007 when they lost in seven games to Medicine Hat then avenged that loss by beating the Tigers in the title game in the Memorial Cup.

The Eastern Conference Final is tied at 2-2 between Edmonton and Prince Albert with game five Friday night in Prince Albert.
