Tristen Nielsen scored at 3:29 of overtime Saturday night giving the Vancouver Giants a 2-1 win over the Victoria Royals and a 2-0 lead in their second-round WHL playoff series.

The Vancouver Giants are heading to Vancouver Island up 2-0 in their second-round series with the Victoria Royals.

Saturday night in front of 4,586 at the Langley Events Centre, the Vancouver Giants earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Royals.

Tristen Nielsen ended the game at 3:29 of overtime giving the Giants their fourth straight victory in the 2019 WHL playoffs.

Lukas Svejkovsky scored the other Giants goal at 5:51 of the second period on a power play. Ralph Jarratt responded with Victoria’s goal at 10:12 of the third, also via the power play. David Tendeck earned his third victory of the playoffs between the pipes for the Giants stopping nine of the 10 shots he faced while Griffen Outhouse stopped 37 of Vancouver’s 39 shot attempts.

On Friday night in front of 4,500-plus at the LEC, the Giants opened the series with a 3-0 win.

Davis Koch, Jared Dmytriw and Dawson Holt had the goals for Vancouver while Bowen Byram had two assists. Trent Miner stopped all 15 shots he faced in goal giving him three wins in the playoffs and his first career WHL shutout.

Outhouse answered with 25 saves in the Victoria net.

The teams head to Victoria for games three and four in the series set for Tuesday and Thursday night. If a game five is necessary, it would be Saturday night at the LEC.

In the other Western Conference second-round series, Spokane leads Everett 2-0 while in the Eastern Conference, Prince Albert leads Saskatoon 2-0 and Edmonton leads Calgary 2-0.
