Russell Howlett cruised to a seven shot victory at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's regular season finale at Mayfair Lakes. The MJT National Championship takes place this weekend at Mayfair Lakes.

Russell Howlett is taking momentum into this weekend’s season-ending Maple Leaf Junior Tour National Championship at Morgan Creek in South Surrey.

The 18-year-old Beach Grove Golf Club junior cruised to victory at last weekend’s MJT Ford Series event at Mayfair Lakes in Richmond. Howlett fired rounds of 72 and 73 on the par-71 6,608-yard layout to win the Junior Boys Division by seven shots. It was his second win on the tour this season. He also was runner-up at the BC Junior Boys Championship back in July.

“My game was all around consistent,” remarked Howlett. “I’m happy to have won and I am looking forward to the national championship.”

The tournament features players from across the country that qualified thanks to season long order of merit standings in their respective provinces.

Other local results at Mayfair Lakes included Charlie Derrheim finishing fourth in the Bantam Boys Division with rounds 71-74. He was just four shots back of winner Ryan Liang from Vancouver. Luke Spencer was seventh in the Juvenile Boys Division after firing 77-82.
