Delta Ice Hawk alumni Jordan Bogress will be suiting up for the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League’s Young Stars next week against Kazakhstan at the Langley Events Centre.

After helping the Ice Hawks win the Pacific Junior League championship a year ago, Bogress took his career to Trinity Western University this season.

The Ladner native began the 2017-18 campaign with the Humboldt Broncos before returning home to re-join the Hawks for a memorable campaign that concluded with a second place finish at the Cyclone Taylor Cup provincial junior “B” championships. Bogress had 35 points in 24 games with Delta, including 16 goals. 

The Kazakhstan U20 national team is preparing for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships in Vancouver and Victoria and is using the LEC as its main training base.

A Collage Hockey Showcase series against local collegiate programs began Tuesday with a 6-2 win over UVic on Tuesday. Kazakhstan will play play Trinity Western on Thursday then conclude the series against the Young Stars on Monday (7 p.m.).

Kazakhstan will open its schedule at the World Juniors against Finland on Dec. 27 in Victoria. Its preliminary round pool group also includes the United States, Slovakia and Sweden.

Kazakhstan is returning to the championship tournament having earned promotion last year after winning the Division I A tournament. The last time Kazakhstan competed in the top-level championship tournament was in 2009, when the team finished 10th. Kazakhstan’s best result at the World Junior Championship was a sixth-place finish in 1999.
