Navi Sekhon was among the most prolific scorers in the province when he led the Delta Pacers to their first provincial tournament berth in 24 years back in 1993. His jersey was officially retired by the program on Saturday night.

The 30th anniversary of the Pacer Alumni Basketball Tournament included honouring one of the Ladner high school’s all-time great players.

Navi Sekhon’s #7 jersey was officially retired by the program during a surprise presentation at Saturday night’s gala at the Ladner Community Centre.

The 1993 graduate led the Pacers senior boys team to its first provincial tournament in 24 years, setting numerous school records in the process that still stand today. Among them was a 64-point outing in a win over Richmond’s McNair Marlins that year.

Sekhon went on to enjoy an outstanding collegiate career, earning All-Canadian status with the Langara Falcons. He also led the Canada West in scoring during his one season with the Calgary Dinos.

Today, the Burnaby Firefighter is an active member of the Delta Pacers Basketball Association and Anesto Charles Foundation. He will also be instructing at the new school district Basketball Academy based out of the Richmond Olympic Oval.

Sekhon becomes the second Delta Pacer to have his jersey retired, joining former national team member and 1988 Olympian Alan Kristmanson who starred on the 1979 team.
