The Juan De Fuca Grizzlies clawled their way to six straight victories to capture South Delta Minor Hockey’s Pee Wee A1 Winter Showcase.

The Vancouver Island squad capped a dominating run with 7-0 win over Calgary’s Springbank AA in Sunday’s championship game. Over the course of the weekend, the Grizzlies outscored their opponents by a whopping 52-8 margin.

Juan de Fuca opened the playoff round with an 8-1 victory over North Vancouver A1 before rolling to a 9-1 romp against Surrey A1 in Sunday morning’s semis.

As for the host A1 Storm, they can take consolation in giving the champions their toughest test of the weekend — a 5-2 defeat to conclude round-robin play on Saturday morning.

South Delta went on to finish second in its pool thanks to earlier wins over North Delta A1 (6-3) and Blackfoot AA (8-3).

The Storm’s title hopes ended with a 5-2 loss to the Seattle A1 Sno-Kings in the quarter-finals. The hosts concluded play Sunday morning with another meeting with Blackfoot — this time producing a 10-1 win.
