Junior B Islanders force deciding game

Delta and Victoria head back to provincial capital on Tuesday in semi-final series

Brendan Szabo and the Delta Islanders staved off elimination with a 10-7 home floor win over the Victoria Shamrocks on Sunday in B.C. Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League semi-final action. The teams will play a third and deciding game on Tuesday.

The Delta Islanders and Victoria Shamrocks are headed back to the provincial capital Tuesday to decide their best-of-three semi-final series in the B.C. Junior B Tier 1 Lacrosse League.

The Islanders forced a deciding game with a 10-7 triumph on Sunday afternoon at the Ladner Leisure Centre. That result came 24 hours after Victoria produced an 8-7 win to open the series at home.

A pair of third period goals from Keegan Kozack secured the game two win for Delta after the Shamrocks had pulled within one.

Rhys Porteous, Devyn Zunti and Brendan Szabo also scored twice. Brayden Kirk and Peyton Hooper added singles. Ben McDonald and Jared Moloci had three assists each. Ashton Leclair made 28 saves with the Islanders enjoying a 51-35 advantage in the shot department.

The series opener was also a tight affair from start to finish with the Shamrocks enjoying 4-3 and 6-4 advantages after each period. 

Porteous had a hat trick and McDonald added a pair.

The winner will play the Coquitlam Adanacs in the league finals. The Adanacs swept the Richmond Roadrunners with wins on Friday and Saturday night.
