South Delta lawn bowlers Pricilla Westlake and Emma Boyd competed for Team Canada at the biennial North American Challenge this weekend in Laguna Woods, Calif.

Despite their best efforts, the Canadian lawn bowlers were no match for their American counterparts at the biennial North American Challenge.

The event, sort of a Ryder Cup of sorts for lawn bowling, came to a close Sunday at Laguna Woods, Calif.

Three days of tough competition brought together some of the top lawn bowlers in both countries.

Team Canada featured locals Pricilla Westlake and Emma Boyd who both put in great performances with their respective teams.

On the final day of competition, in the Women’s Fours, the Folkins squad of Westlake, Betty Van Walleghem (MB), Baylee Van Steijn (ON), and Alexis Gallacher (AB) narrowly lost their first match before rebounding with a win. In the final game, the Canadians came up one point shy in 17-16 match.

The Jarvis squad, comprised of Boyd, Shirley Fitzpatrick-Wong (MB), Joanna Cooper (AB), and Fran Scott (SK), clicked right away, picking up two wins in their first two games. In the final game, the Americans had an answer and defeated the Canadians 14-9.

The Americans walked away with all seven of the coveted NAC trophies.
