Delta cruises to win over Sun Devils to retain Brasnett/Lawrence Cup

Delta Pacers captured the Brasnett/Lawrence Cup for the first time three years ago. Now they won’t let go of it.

The senior girls basketball team 3-peated as champions and evened the all-time series at 3-3 after a dominating 90-47 win over the South Delta Sun Devils on Friday night.

The Ladner school raced out to a 24-2 first quarter lead behind 13 points from Nava Hothi and never looked back. She went on to score a game-high 26 points. Julianne Jones also had a productive outing with 18. Hanna Hansen added 12, while Abbey Wigglesworth and Reiko Bohmert had 10 each.

The Sun Devils dressed some players from their talented Grade 9 team but it was a big step up against senior age opponents. Celia Lucea led the hosts with 14 points.

The game also counted towards Fraser Valley Tier II League play where the Pacers now sit at 6-2 and the Sun Devils at 3-4.
