Pacers & Sun Devils hosting Fraser Valley Championships

Provincial berths on the line for senior boys and girls teams this week

South Delta Sun Devils have been seeded sixth for the Fraser Valley AAAA Girls Championships. They will see round of 16 action on Wednesday against Centennial.

Delta Pacers and South Delta Sun Devils senior boys and girls volleyball teams will be looking to nail down provincial berths this week when they co-host their respective Fraser Valley Championships.

The defending champion Pacers have been seeded No. 2 in the boys “AAA” tourney and will play the winner of Port Moody/Centennial in a quarter-final match on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. A win would send the province’s seventh ranked team to a semi-final date on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) against likely Elgin Park or Seaquam.

The tournament will conclude in South Surrey Friday night with the bronze and gold medal games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. respectively where the number one ranked and host Earl Marriott Mariners are the team to beat.

Meanwhile, the Sun Devils will trying to continue their string of provincial tournament appearances when they host the “AAAA” girls championships.

The No. 6 seed Devils will take on No. 11 Centennial on Wednesday at 6 p.m. A win sends them to the quarter-finals Thursday (6 p.m.) against likely No. 3 Riverside of Port Coquitlam. The semi-finals also go on Thursday (7:30 p.m.

The tournament concludes Friday with placement games and the final at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Earl Marriott is the No. 1 seed, followed by Lord Tweedsmuir, while Seaquam is No. 4.

In Langley, Southpointe Academy Titans will be trying to lock up their second straight trip to provincials at the Fraser Valley “A” Championships.

The 10th ranked Titans open play Wednesday with a semi-final match against host Credo. A win would likely mean a date with No. 1 ranked Unity Christian of Chilliwack in the title game.
