Sands curling team a family affair

Team Bowles headed to high school provincials in Winfield next month

It will certainly be a family affair for a Sands Secondary team that has qualified for next month’s BC High School Curling Championships in Winfield.

Team Bowles will be trying to bring Sands its first-ever provincial curling banner when they head to the Okanagan town March 4-7. The rink secured a spot by winning the recent South Fraser Zone Playdowns.

The rink features skip Elizabeth Bowles, her sisters Emily (third) and Kate (lead), along with their cousins Taylor and Morgan Bowles. The girls happen to be coached by Mike Bowles — Elizabeth, Emily and Kate’s dad.

The family has grown up curling together at the nearby Delta Thistle Club. Emily, Kate, Taylor and Morgan will also be representing the Vancouver Coastal Zone at this weekend’s BC Winter Games in Fort St. John. Elizabeth won silver at the last Winter Games two years ago.

The family is raising money for not only the two big trips but also for training, equipment and new uniform costs too through a Go Fund Me Page.
