Alaska-bound Nick Wicks is well on his way to his best season in the B.C. Hockey League captaining the Merritt Centennials.

South Delta native Nicholas Wicks earned honourable mention for B.C. Hockey League’s Player of the Week honours thanks to a strong three-game stretch with the Merritt Centennials.

The 20-year-old team captain earned first star honours with a goal and an assist in a 5-1 home ice win over the Nanaimo Clippers. That came one night after notching a pair of assists in a 5-4 victory at West Kelwona.

Wicks began the month with a natural hat trick in a 5-2 victory over Salmon Arm. 

He currently sits 18th in league scoring with 37 points in 35 games and is well on his way to a career best season.

The Centennials are enjoying an impressive campaign with a 21-12-1-1 record.

The South Delta Minor and Delta Hockey Academy product will take his career to University of Alaska-Anchorage next season after committing to the NCAA Division One program over the summer.

Former Delta Ice Hawks defenceman and South Delta native Aidan Hansen-Bukuta is enjoying an impressive rookie campaign with the Clippers. The 19-year-old, who was a big part of the Ice Hawks’ success year ago, ranks third in the league among rookie defenceman with 21 points in 32 games, incluidng four goals. That’s just a single point back of Nick Brochen (Prince George) and Pito Walton (Coquitlam). 

The DHA alumni managed 21 points in 40 regular season games with the Hawks last season and also enjoyed an outstanding post-season with 14 more in 15 games, logging loads of ice time for head coach Steve Robinson.
