Stingy '03 Invaders win tourney on home turf

South Delta girls rep team surrenders just three runs in five games en route to the title

Led by outstanding pitching from Nevada Johnson and Kara Leisz, the host Invaders ’03 won gold at the Delta tournament held at Brandrith Park last weekend.

The Invaders allowed only three runs against over five games to go undefeated. Shortstop Maddison Jose and second base Aaliyah Lingam were standouts on defence.

The team was strong in batting with clutch hits by Erin McHugh, Morgan Bouchey and Megan Mawdsley. Key RBIs were brought in my Emma Webster and Hanna Ritchie. Catchers Jenna Valente and Molly Prentice had impressive performances.

The Invaders add the triumph to a gold medal from an earlier Kelowna tournament and a silver from the South Surrey/White Rock tournament. They are now 29-1-3 overall.

Delta Fastpitch is hosting the U16 Provincial Championships July 12-14 at North Delta Park and the Invaders ’03 will be vying for the provincial title.
