Sun Devils secure 18th straight trip to provincials

A hat trick from Bree Gallagher powered the South Delta Sun Devils to a 4-1 win over Brookswood in the Fraser Valley AAA playoffs. The Sun Devils have advanced to the semi-finals, locking up their 18th consecutive trip to the provincials in the process.

The South Delta Sun Devils have locked up their 18th consecutive trip to the B.C. AAA Girls Soccer Championships.

A 1-0 win over the Riverside Rapids in quarter-final play on Wednesday in the Fraser Valley playoffs ensured the record streak will continue. A penalty kick goal from Brianna Jassmann provided the difference against the Port Coquitlam school.

The top seeded Sun Devils, guided by longtime coaches Stephen Burns and Brent Sweeney, opened the 16-team event with a 4-1 win over Brookswood on Monday. A hat trick from Bree Gallagher led the charge.

South Delta will be back on the Winskill turf Monday (3 p.m.) to take on the Centennial Centaurs in the semi-finals. The Valley playoffs will conclude next Thursday at Cloverdale Athletic Park.

The Sun Devils finished second a year ago en route to a bronze medal at provincials.
