Thrilling finishes to RASA Summer League play

Tigers capture Division One crown while Bombastic take Division Two honours

The division titles in the Richmond Adult Soccer Association’s Summer League came right down to the wire.

The Rino’s Tigers and Delta Blaze squared off with the winner going home with Division One honours. A draw would give the title to idle Westside.

The Tigers proved to be the stronger side and took a 2-0 advantage into the second half. Their strength continued to expanded the lead to 4-0 before the Blaze answered with a pair of its own. The Tigers held on to clinch the championship.

Division Two honours came right down to penalty kicks.

Metropolitan FC and Bombastic FC finished tied with 31 points apiece and a playoff game had to decide the winner. This match-up was so close, no one could possibly forecast the outcome.

In the first half Bombastic dominated most of the play and went in to the second half with a 2-0 lead. But the next 45 minutes belonged to Metropolitan who changed the momentum of the game and seemed likely to score.

Chance after chance went their way and after 15 minutes they finally scored. They put more pressure on Bombastic but just when it seemed that Bombastic would hold on to win Metropolitan tied the game.

After only a few minutes into extra time, Metropolitan thrashed home a shot from 20-yards to take 3-2. However, answered in the second overtime half, blasting home the equalizer to send the match to penalty kicks.

Bombastic opened with three straight goals and Metropolitan missed two. But there was one final dramatic turn in this thriller as Bombastic missed its next four attempts and Metropolitan hit every shot to win the Division Two Championship for their first time.
