Cheerleaders from Vancouver All Stars South are all smiles after capturing the top prize at an international competition in Las Vegas.

Vancouver All Stars South is a competitive cheerleading gym in Tsawwassen whose program is made up of athletes from all over Delta (mostly Ladner and Tsawwassen).

Last weekend the international junior Team Shade competed in the Jamz Champions League International Championships hosted at the Orleans Arena.

“Our athletes had two perfect performances and brought home a first place title back to Delta along with championship rings,” said director Samantha Hodgins. “We are so pleased with all the hard work and dedication put in by these athletes and couldn't think of a more deserving group of athletes.”

The South Delta athletes on the team include: Mackenzie Alexander-Reid, Gloria Baker, Alethea Black, Elle Brooks, Maya Campbell, Camryn Gaytmenn, Mackenzie Grant, Meghan Lazarus, Claire MacDonald, Maegan MacMillan, Hannah Matson and Emily Rodgers.

The gym will be hosting a community fun day and showcase on Saturday, June 1 starting at 11 a.m. at Ecole du Bois Joli, 785-49th St., Tsawwassen, to have one last performance for friends and family.

“We welcome our community to come and celebrate a great season with us,” said Hodgins. “It's the perfect opportunity to learn more about cheer and how to join our VAS teams next season.”
