Tsawwassen's Brent Seabrook had season-ending shoulder surgery on Friday. The Chicago Blackhawks veteran blueliner is also scheduled have both his hips operated on over the next two months.

The wear and tear of a long NHL career has taken its toll on Brent Seabrook.

The 34-year-old defenceman from Tsawwassen had successful season-ending surgery on his right shoulder Friday. He is also scheduled to have surgery on his right hip in early January and his left hip in February.

The announcement came after full medical evaluation was conducted on Seabrook by Chicago Blackhawks team physician Michael Terry prior to a game in Winnipeg on Dec. 19.

Seabrook has been a mainstay on the Hawks’ blueline since 2005 — helping Chicago win Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Over that time he has played in 1,114 regular season games and 123 more in the post-season.

During the Hawks’ 2013 cup run, Seabrook scored the game seven overtime winner against Detroit and also in game four of the finals against Boston.

He was a member of the Canadian gold medal winning hockey team at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

He is under contract through the 2023-24 season at an average annual value of $6,875,000 (US) after signing an eight-year extension back in 2015.

Seabrook came through the South Delta Minor Hockey Association before being selected in the first round of the 2000 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

He spent his 15-year-old season in the Pacific Junior Hockey League with the Delta Ice Hawks, helping his hometown team win the playoff championship and led all scorers in the post-season. It was then off to Lethbridge for a productive WHL career that led to him being selected 14th overall by Chicago in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
