Tunnel Town curlers earn spots at U18 Provincials

Championships slated for next month at the Juan de Fuca Curling Club

They took on the top juniors in Vernon now four up-and-coming talents from the Tunnel Town Curling Club will be battling B.C.’s best at the U18 level next month in Victoria.

Connor Deane, Sam Husdon, Meredith Cole and Keira McCoy helped their respective rinks clinch berths into the U18 B.C. Curling Championships, slated for March 12-17 at the Juan De Fuca Curling Club.

Deane and Husdon teamed up with Mack Ellis and Troy Cowan to capture the “B” Event at last weekend’s qualifier hosted by the Mission Granite Curling Club. The boys overcame a tough and demanding schedule that included three hard-fought games on Sunday. The team is coached by former Tunnel Town standout Cody Tanaka.

Meanwhile, Cole and McCoy joined Jenna and Chelsea Taylor to also win the “B” Event. This same rink also competed at the B.C. Junior Women’s Curling Championships, while Husdon and Deane teamed up with Nick Umbach and Brenin Moore at the Junior Men’s.

A busy competitive season for Deane and Husdon will include the B.C. High School Curling Championships later this month in Maple Ridge where they will be joined by Delta Secondary classmates Clayton Henry and Tavin Edge. They won last month’s Lower Valley Playdowns.
