Several Delta area golf courses have announced plans to re-open.

On Sunday, the Links at Hampton Cove re-opened with strict COVID-19 protocols in place focusing on safety, social distancing, and sanitary practices. A list of those protocols is on their website: https://www.hamptoncove.ca/.

Kings Links By The Sea remains closed according to its website, as well as Tsawwassen Springs.

Beach Grove Golf Club, the cities lone private course, plans to re-open on Monday, April 27.

“Following a meeting of our board of directors and management we have developed a reopening plan of the golf course for Monday, April 27,” said club president Dave Hamilton in a message to members of their website. “This date is in line with Capilano, Shaughnessy, Marine Drive and Vancouver, and will be sent to Fraser Health Authority for approval as requested. Looking forward to seeing you at the club.”

Delta Golf Course and Sunshine Woods Golf Centre have both been open for the past few weeks.

The opening, closing and now re-opening of golf courses in Delta has been hotly debated on social media as well as through the City of Delta.

Under its local state of emergency in March, Delta ordered all courses in the city to be closed, but as the calendar turned over to April, some courses looked to re-open over the Easter long weekend, which prompted Harvie to write a letter to Premier John Horgan seeking greater enforcement measures.

During the April 16th virtual town hall, Harvie addressed the questions and concerns about golf courses in the community.

“People think I hate golf. I love golf and have golfed at local courses for over 30 years,” said Harvie. “We asked the courses that were closed to stay closed over the long weekend, again just trying to do everything possible to stop large gatherings. What we did over the Easter weekend will not be known until a few weeks from now in terms of containing the virus. “The other courses that are closed do plan to re-open, so what I have suggested to them is that they share their separation plans with Fraser Health and get comments and suggestions with them. If we get complaints, we will forward those complaints to Fraser Health.”
