Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation is holding an online fundraiser to help its healthcare heroes keep fighting COVID-19.

As one of B.C.’s primary COVID-19 sites, the Royal Columbia Hospital cares for some of the province’s most critically ill patients.

Now the public can help support its efforts by purchasing tickets for its 50/50 raffle fundraiser.

The more tickets sold, the bigger the prize.

“The proceeds of this fundraiser are to quickly respond to the emerging needs of the hospital today as we are trying to meet the demands of the pandemic,” hospital foundation vice president of donor engagement Donna MacIntosh says.

While the hospital is in the midst of an ambitious redevelopment, this fundraiser is targeted specifically to help respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

To support care for the influx of COVID-19 patients, the hospital has purchased specialized equipment to safely intubate patients, new ultrasound machines to assess the cardiac and lung status of COVID patients, and smartphones and tablets to help keep patients and their loved ones connected.

The hospital has also been involved with research over the past year, studying ventilator use in COVID-19 participants.

Like many nonprofits, the hospital foundation’s regular fundraising activities have been curtailed by restrictions on in-person gatherings.

The online raffle is an ideal way to engage in fundraising while allowing the public to stay home safely.

“The 50/50 raffle is a nice way to allow the public no matter their financial means to participate and feel as though they can give back in a small way,” MacIntosh says.

Tickets can be purchased online up until June 9 at 11:59 p.m. Participants must be 19 years or older to purchase 50/50 tickets and must be in B.C. at the time of purchase.

“It has been an intense year and it continues to be,” MacIntosh says.

“We are so grateful to be a part of the solution and helping out our patients and healthcare workers.”
