Why you should make sure to thank your transit driver on March 18

Metro Vancouverites are known for our habit of saying “thank you” to our transit drivers when we step off buses, so for plenty of riders it’s just a natural daily reflex. But on Monday, March 18, saying “thank you” to your driver is a little bit more special. That’s because it’s Transit Driver Appreciation Day.

The movement and designation of the day has been spearheaded by TriMet, the transit agency in Portland, Oregon, but here in Vancouver, TransLink is definitely on board with Transit Driver Appreciation Day, too.

Not surprisingly, we agree that transit operators can be pretty awesome here in Metro Vancouver. Recently we put out a call for submissions for your favourite TransLink bus drivers, and we were absolutely bowled over by the volume of responses, and got some incredible stories from our readers. (We are working on getting those stories turned around so everyone can read them soon!)

So give an extra smile or “thank you,” to your drivers today, and if you haven’t already, pop over to the TransLink website to leave some feedback about a driver worthy of praise – it can go a long way.
