Young boys set up lemonade stand in Richmond to support sick children

A lemonade stand run by three boys under the age of 10 is back in business throughout June, raising funds for sick children who travel to Vancouver for life-saving treatment.

Lucas set up the table with his two younger brothers Dallas, five, and Harrison, one, at their grandmother’s Richmond farm - Maxwell’s Strawberries U Pick Field located at Gilbert and Finn road– to help support Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon.

Christy Maxwell, the mother of the three boys, told the Richmond News how the determined kids opened their stand in the early hours of June 8. The lemonade is free, but a donation is appreciated.

The boys not only enjoy contributing to the charity, explains their mom, but also love spending time with their 85-year-old grandma, Norma Maxwell who owns the farm.

“We are very fortunate that our kids are healthy, and we (our family members) want to do as much as we can to give back to society,” added Christy Maxwell.

This isn’t the first time these three boys have participated in fundraising. Last year, they raised about $500, all of which they donated to BC Children’s Hospital.

The fundraising goal for this year is $2,000 -- $1,000 has been raised so far. The three boys will continue to run the lemonade stand until the end of the month. While they’re in school, Norma will collect the money on their behalf.

Maxwell said she and her husband would match up to $2,000, and all donations will go towards Ronald Macdonald House, providing accommodations for children and their family members while traveling to Vancouver for medical treatments.
