Tsawwassen is getting its farmers market back this Saturday with a new location – the Benediction Lutheran Church.

“We are very excited about the move,” says market manager Anne Janzen. “The church has been incredibly accommodating to work with, allowing us to set up every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Many members have seen us struggle to find our footing over the years, and they have been eager to see Tsawwassen get a great local farmers market.

There will be a total of 12 events this season with each one featuring the freshest seasonal produce as it becomes available, she says.

The market had been on hiatus since mid-summer last year.

Opening day offers items from three bakeries, the best of Delta produce, fresh fruit from the Okanagan, and a smattering of gourmet food producers, chefs and artisans. The market is launching with 15 curated vendors, with room to double that number over the summer. The market also includes live music.

“We are even more motivated this year, and appreciate those who have reached out to ask how can they help,” says Janzen. “I've been telling people that the very best way to ensure our market grows and Tsawwassen gets the best vendors is to show up and shop. Buy them out. Word spreads quickly among vendors at the various farmers markets around the Lower Mainland, and a sell-out market will grow into the market you want to see, in a matter of weeks. Don’t wait until your neighbour tells you that corn is in. Show up every week, and vote with your wallet so we know what to bring in for you.”
