Minister's Minute: More than thoughts and prayers

Do you know that some signs really make you think? Like the one that was posted at Ladner Baptist Church on Trunk Road just a couple of weeks ago. I believe the sign said, “Jesus didn’t stop at thoughts and prayers.” That really made me think!

How often do I say that phrase? Of course, I really will pray and offer my thoughts, but could there be more?

The truth for me is that of course the one whom I try to pattern my life and follow is Jesus who is God’s light come into the world to bring new life. His life was so much more than just a passing prayer or a fleeting thought; his life was “all in.”

This Sunday we are celebrating a day in the church calendar called Palm Sunday.

We recall how Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem followed by his friends and crowds. He was riding on a donkey and the people cut down palm branches and laid them on the road to show that they were welcoming Jesus as a new king who would defeat their enemies and set them free.

Jesus gave no speeches, nor a passing thought, but offered his own self as a servant king. A Saviour who would suffer and die on a cruel cross — but rise again on the third day — so much more than a thought or a prayer – Jesus gave us his all so that we might walk in his steps and bring new life too!
