The Friends of Ladner Village - a Delta community group – is monitoring the progress of Delta’s Official Community Plan (OCP) and has launched an online petition requesting council reject the proposed OCP following the April 22 public hearing and refer it back to staff for additional work.

“While we acknowledge a pressing need for more affordable housing in Delta, the flawed OCP engagement process is too rushed for residents to adequately read, absorb and comment on over 800 pages of documents and maps,” says spokesperson Bev Yaworski.

“Confusing misinformation has circulated. Engagement numbers are way too low to make accurate, reliable decisions based on responses from only 3.2 per cent of eligible voters or 5.9 per cent of households.

“If this is such an important plan that hasn’t been updated since 1985, then allowing only about two months for community input - and holding a public hearing at times when working residents are unable to attend - is completely unacceptable.”

The Friends of Ladner Village petition can be accessed at https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/reject-deltas-official-community-plan-2024 and or via email: [email protected].

This petition highlights concerns about high-rise density, traffic, parking, unresolved infrastructure, inadequate heritage protections, and Ladner Village Chisholm Street business evictions.

Residents are also urged to write to: [email protected] with their comments before April 22 and/or attend the April 22 public hearing.
